Mr. Asher represents numerous domestic and international organizations, including private foundations, public charities, and trade and professional associations.

Mr. Asher is a member of the American Bar Association tax section, as a member of its exempt organizations section and subcommittee on political activities and private foundations. He has spoken and published widely on tax law issues, including Lobbying By Public Charities (NYU Tax Journal 1992); Myth vs. Fact, Foundation Support of Advocacy (Alliance, Washington DC, 1995); and Foundations and Ballot Measures: A Legal Guide (Alliance 1998).

A 1963 graduate of Columbia University (law school, JD, cum laude; MBA, Finance), Mr. Asher serves on the Boards of numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Discount Foundation and Woodbury Fund (Washington DC); Declaration of Independence, Inc. (Los Angeles); Center for Responsive Politics (DC, 1989 – 2002, Chairman 1995 – 1999); Proteus Fund (Amherst MA); and Operation Respect (New York).

He is a member of the District of Columbia, New York and Massachusetts Bars. Recent speeches include the Aspen Institute, Program on Nonprofit Organizations; Council on Foundations; Association of Small Foundations; and Environmental Grant-makers.
