Courtney Chappell joined James & Hoffman as an associate in May 2007. Before joining the firm, she was the Policy and Programs Director at the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum and a Fellow at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. In both capacities she worked on issues related to reproductive health care, immigration, judicial nominations, and welfare reform. She is a recipient of a Women's Law and Public Policy Fellowship and a New Voices fellowship. Ms. Chappell graduated magna cum laude from American University Washington College of Law in 2004. During law school, she worked at the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Employment Litigation Section, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the ACLU National Legislative Office. She also served as a student attorney in the Domestic Violence Clinic, and staff member of the American University Law Review. Ms. Chappell has volunteered at the D.C. Superior Court Family Self-Help Center and the Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center, and is on the board of directors of the Asian Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project, a community based organization in Washington, D.C. Ms. Chappell is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the Maryland State Bar Association.
