Martha (Marnie) Walfoort has practiced labor and employment law for two decades, representing labor unions, individuals, non-profit and for profit organizations in litigation, alternate dispute resolution and internal governance under a range of federal and state and local laws. She was a founding member of James & Hoffman, assuming of counsel status in 2001.

Like all the attorneys at James & Hoffman, Ms. Walfoort is committed to representing working people and in providing high quality, cost-effective representation to every client. She has a special interest in equal employment opportunity and has published articles in legal and labor publications on rights of women, children and workers. She has also served as counsel in internal union elections.

Ms. Walfoort graduated with commendation from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, in 1972, and obtained her masters in elementary education from Bank Street College of Education in New York in 1980. After teaching in Boston and New York community schools, she attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she earned her J.D. in 1980. She served a judicial clerkship in Philadelphia before beginning the practice of labor law in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Walfoort is admitted to the District of Columbia and Pennsylvania bars, among others. She lives in Washington, D.C. with her spouse, who is also an attorney, and two children.
